It is a law of physics that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. Otherwise, matter can collapse in on itself like a black hole. If ever there was a moment when the principles of quantum mechanics applied to American households, this is it. After protracted stay-at-home measures with family members confined together working, studying, struggling the bottom fell out, exposing a void where a net was supposed to be.
As the world ground to a halt and parents scrambled for solutions, an uncomfortable truth emerged: Women are America’s default social safety net. It’s a regressive construct that has entrapped and hobbled working mothers across the spectrum including lawyer-moms. The pandemic simply tightened the screws. ....

Would Daunte Wright be dead if he was 'white-passing'? 'Deciding who's white enough to live is absurd': Internet

Daunte Wright (Twitter/Andy Ngo)
It was Twitter user Bree Newsome who shared the query on the social media site writing, Daunte Wright’s mother is racially white but he’s unambiguously Black in phenotype & for that reason is positioned within a system of structural racism that ultimately murders him. If he had the same parentage but been more white-passing in appearance, would he have been stopped?

America’s third branch of government has been at the epicenter of the news cycle in recent years, with the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, high-profile battles over U.S. Supreme Court nominations, and controversy over election results putting the power and influence of the bench into full focus.
We have seen that courts can be an instrument for social and political change; they can be the sword and the shield. But they best serve justice when they are inclusive a perennial challenge for the federal judiciary.

Intersection is a column that explores issues of race, gender and law across America’s criminal and social justice landscape.
A new administration means a new approach to justice issues in America, but it remains to be seen what actions will be taken amid clamors for reform. There have been months of protests over police brutality and continued killings of Black people at the hands of law enforcement. And while President Joe Biden conducts triage, activists are seeking substantive change.

Policing in America is in crisis. This is not a controversial observation, a revelation or an alternative fact. Communities of color are overpoliced and brutalized. Law enforcement officers feel increasingly unappreciated and under attack. America has an unregulated and broken police system that must be overhauled. U.S. law enforcem ....
