Shareholder activism tipped to rise, even though some small-timers can't vote

I certainly think on some of these hugely influential technology companies, platforms, energy companies, people do want a say.
In New Zealand user-friendly investing platforms like Sharesies and Hatch have brought a huge number of new members into the market.
However, for many small shareholders intent on activism, there s a catch. In mutual funds – including Kiwisaver funds – shareholders do not hold voting rights because they do not own the shares.

Assume there will be more disruptions to GameStop trading, Sharesies says

GameStop shares have been trading freely on Thursday morning, sitting at around US$90 a share.
After a five-hour black out period on Wednesday New Zealand retail investors can again buy volatile Wall Street shares like GameStop, but more disruptions can be expected, a share trading platform says.
Some members of New Zealand fractional share trading platforms Sharesies and Hatch have been left frustrated and seeking answers after both platforms were unable to offer buy options for highly traded New York Stock Exchange stocks including GameStop and AMC Entertainment Holdings.
In the past year GameStop’s share price has risen from a low of about US$2.50 (NZ$3.47) to peak at nearly US$500 last week after a community of Reddit users launched a short squeeze on the stock as a way of punishing hedge funds which had taken out short positions on GameStop. ....

If the share price drops they can buy the stock back at a cheaper price and return them to the party they borrowed them off, pocketing the difference.

Their user-friendly apps and small fees also make investing more accessible, with less admin involved than has historically been the case.
