Timeline: The history of the controversial Prime Ministers Path in Wilmot Township

Originally meant to honour 150 years of confederation, the Prime Ministers Path project in Wilmot Township has been splashed with controversy for nearly a decade.
Monday night, council is set to vote on a recommendation from the First Peoples Group that says the project should be scrapped altogether.
The group s report calls for the remaining four statues to be removed and for council to discontinue any future expansion.

Wilmot Township CAO let go following closed council meeting

The Township of Wilmot has announced that their Chief Administrative Officer is no longer employed by them.
The Friday afternoon statement says the decision to let current CAO Grant Whittington came after a closed council meeting that morning.
No further details have been given as to why Whittington was fired.
Wilmot Mayor Les Armstrong tells CTV News it is a personal matter and they will not be releasing any more information.
Sandy Jackson, the director parks, facilities, and recreation services, will be appointed acting CAO on Monday while continuing to oversee her department.

Police investigating posters promoting 'White Lives Matter' parade found in New Hamburg

Waterloo regional police are investigating posters in New Hamburg promoting a White Lives Matter parade next month.
Residents said they re upset by the posters.
I was definitely disturbed when I saw it, John Bailey said.
A Wilmot Township councillor discovered a poster on Wednesday morning and shared it with colleagues.
To let us know there had been a White Lives Matter parade poster that had gone up at the light poles on Peel and Huron in New Hamburg, Coun. Cheryl Gordijk said.
Bylaw was also notified of another poster on Smith s Creek Drive.
One other sign was found, removed and all information was forwarded to Waterloo regional police, said Erin Merritt, the bylaw manager for Wilmot Township. ....
