Surprising absolutely no one, Tim Cook is not a fan of now-dead Gawker Media, of which Gizmodo was a part. And though Gawker has been dead since 2016, it appears that Cook also decided to kill a fictional Gawker by pulling the plug on a proposed Apple TV+ show about the site’s glory days.

In fact, it was sort of weird when earlier this year Vanity Fair reported that Apple had greenlit the show. Historically speaking, there’s been, uh, some beef between this network of blogs and Apple. This particular site may have gotten its mitts on an iPhone 4 prototype after an Apple employee lost it at a bar. Gizmodo published the deets. Apple was less than pleased. 'Gawker' Movie Canceled After Tim Cook Found Out About It

The idea for Scraper was sold to Apple TV by Gawker’s former editor-in-chief, Max Reid, and former Gawker editor Cord Jefferson. Apple also brought on former Gawker editors Emma Carmichael and Leah Beckmann as writers for the show. Layne Eskridge, the Apple executive who brought on the show, has now left the company and the show is back on the market, the Times reported.
This isn’t the first time a show has been altered or canceled to keep Apple executives happy. During the production of another Apple show, a person involved told the Times that they were told to avoid a scene where a phone would be damaged. Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president for internet software and services, instructed content producers to “avoid portraying China in a poor light,” Buzzfeed reported. Cue also told partners that “the two things we will never do are hard-core nudity and China,” a creative figure who has worked with Apple told the Times. ....

Apple CEO Tim Cook seems to have personally killed an Apple TV+ series about Gawker, according to Ben Smith of The New York Times.
Apple TV+ had commissioned a series from Gawker Cord Jefferson and Max Read about the gossip website and “had completed several episodes,” according to Smith’s reporting. Read was once Gawker editor-in-chief.
“Then, an Apple executive got an email from the company’s chief executive, Tim Cook,” the New York Times wrote. “Mr. Cook, according to two people briefed on the email, was surprised to learn that his company was making a show about Gawker, which had humiliated the company at various times and famously outed him, back in 2008, as gay.
