FORT SMITH The Ladies’ Auxiliary of Immaculate Conception Church is about to send its youngest member to kindergarten.
Riley Becker began attending the group’s weekly crafters’ meetings when she was only eight weeks old, and as she grew, she became an indispensable helper to the dozens of grandmas there.
“Today I filled cups with ice. Last week I helped the cooks and cut ribbons,” Becker said. ....

July 20, 1896: One hundred and fifteen years ago today, The Journal and Tribune reported, “Mr. J.T. Burch, of the Nashville American, was in the city yesterday en route to Johnson City, where he will join Gov. Taylor.”
The Journal and Tribune was a newspaper published in Knoxville. It ceased publication in 1924. The Nashville American was published in Nashville from 1894 until 1910. There was not a daily newspaper published in Johnson City in 1896. The Comet was a weekly publication.
July 20, 1911: The Comet reported, “A meeting of the board of mayor and aldermen was held on Monday afternoon, for the purpose of considering the issuance of paving bonds and the fixing of interest. Bids will probably be opened next week and work will begin at once The matter, however, was not definitely decided, but will come up for final adjournment in a few days.” ....

July 13, 1866: The East Tennessee Union Flag reported, “We will publish a full report of the Commencement Exercises of the Jonesboro Female College in our next issue, as we have not room this week. We will say however, that both teachers and pupils acquitted themselves in a manner credible to the extreme. The school closed with prospects for a bright future.”
The East Tennessee Union Flag was a newspaper published in Jonesborough, which was spelled that way on the masthead. The city was spelled that way, as well as Jonesboro, within the pages of the newspaper.
July 13, 1871: One hundred and fifty years ago today, the Herald and Tribune ran an advertisement for A.J. Brown, who was an attorney at law, as well as a collections agent. Mr. Brown’s officers were located in Jonesborough. The advertisement further stated that “Prompt attention (would be) given to collections in East Tennessee, and Southwestern, Va.” ....
