4 killed in separate Polk County crashes in the past week The Ledger Constance Jones, 57, of Wauchula was killed in the crash. According to the preliminary investigation, the Sheriff s Office said Constance Jones, 57, was driving a 2007 white Honda Fit east on West County Line Road on the Polk-Hardee county line. As she approached Mosaic s South Fort Meade Mine, a Caterpillar 980M front-end loader with grapple forks, which was being used for construction work by Primoris Company, began to cross the road from the south. The Honda struck the raised forks. Jones died at the scene. The driver of the front-end loader, 26-year-old Wilson Bembry of Lakeland, was not injuried. West County Line Road was closed in both directions for about four hours for the investigation, which remains ongoing. ....

The attacks on Sept. 11 were still roughly a year away. COVID-19 and a global pandemic weren t on anyone s radar. The iPhone and smartphones in general weren t a thing for another seven years. While much was different, certain things have remained constant. One of the things that haven t changed is people wanting to buy fresh, conifer trees to help them celebrate Christmas. For that reason, Miller opted to get into the tree business by running a seasonal lot. ....
