Ottawa sees lowest number of new COVID-19 cases in a week


 
OTTAWA
Ottawa Public Health is reporting its lowest number of new COVID-19 cases in a week.
In its COVID-19 dashboard update on Tuesday, OPH reported 13 more people in Ottawa have tested positive for COVID-19 and one more person has died. The last time numbers were below 20 was on Dec. 8, when 18 new cases were reported.
This comes amid changes to data extraction methods at the provincial level that gave Ottawa a negative case count on Tuesday.
Health Minister Christine Elliott said the province made the change Tuesday, which led to an increase in the number of cases reported across Ontario. ....

Project Horse's Warrior Herd program helps provide therapy for veterans


A Purcellville-based nonprofit organization has received a $36,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Services to expand its partnerships and research working with veterans in a project called Warrior Herd.
Project Horse Empowerment Center, which was established in 2008 by Darcy Woessner, has been working with people and small groups both in-person and virtually since the pandemic began in March.
The unique therapy does not involve riding a horse, but working with horses. In so doing, people who have experienced some form of trauma are able to build a safe space and a relationship with the horse, which eventually helps overcome the trauma, Woessner said. ....

The financial troubles of the family at the center of the North Portland “red house” occupation date back nearly 20 years to a criminal case involving the former owners’ son.
William Kinney III pleaded guilty in 2002 to felony hit-and-run, third-degree assault and the juvenile equivalent of criminally negligent homicide for causing the death of an 83-year-old man, Frederick Goetz, and seriously injuring Goetz’s wife, Ann.
Fred Goetz was an outdoors writer and at one time owned Cameron’s Books & Magazines, a downtown bookstore. ....
