Read Article At its May 17 meeting the Lewiston City Council approved a water rate increase of 23%, 7-0. This is a drastic increase in a very trying time. The only information provided to the public was a one-page blue sheet of paper from Public Works. Very little information was provided as to the great need for the 23% increase, and no informational Zoom meeting to explain the increase was announced in the information sent out only a public hearing. I have no idea why they believe they need an increase of $1,408,832, except it is stated as “in order to meet the Water Division’s annual cash requirement.” ....
City officials appeared to favor the “Portland Loo” public bathroom design for a permanent facility in Lewiston. City of Portland, Ore. LEWISTON The city could install a permanent public restroom in a downtown location later this year if funding is approved by the Lewiston City Council. During a workshop this week, a majority of the council appeared in favor of an option to pursue a permanent public bathroom structure, known as the “Portland Loo,” or a similar style, which have become popular with municipalities. As of now, $131,000 toward the project is included in next year’s Capital Improvement Plan, which is on course to be approved by the council later this month. ....

When Lewiston High School students returned from school vacation April 26, they were greeted with notes of encouragement posted on lockers throughout the school. The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council was recently contacted by Lewiston High School teacher Judy Radigan, who was planning to decorate the high school with uplifting notes and colorful bulletin boards to greet returning students. As such, she asked the youth council if it could do another “Lock in Your Kindness” event like they did in 2019 by placing post-its notes on lockers, which had been done that year as part of the group’s anti-bullying campaign. The council responded in the affirmative, and several members began writing uplifting, encouraging post-its. ....
