Australia s most successful Olympian of all-time, Ian Thorpe, will join the Seven Network s commentary team for the Olympic Games in Tokyo this July.
The five-times Olympic gold medallist confirmed today he will be on the starting blocks for the delayed Games.
After stints for the BBC calling the London Olympics in 2012 and then working for Indian broadcaster Star Sports for Rio s 2016 Games, Thorpie will finally be calling the Olympics for an Aussie audience.
To be honest the feeling I get from commentating, the adrenaline, is the closest feeling I have ever felt that is like competing, the 38-year-old said. ....

Five-time gold medallist Ian Thorpe has joined Seven’s commentary team for the
Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Seven’s commentary line-up is led by Bruce McAvaney with Anna Meares, Nick Green, Giaan Rooney, Scott McGrory, Russell Mark, Debbie Watson and Kerri Pottharst, along with Andrew Gaze, Rachael Sporn, Tamsyn Lewis-Manou and David Culbert, and Candice Warner.
“I am really excited to be joining the Seven commentary team for the
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games,” he said.
“There is no doubt these Games are going to be our most unique to date, and I’m looking forward to working alongside Giaan Rooney, Basil Zempilas, Nathan Templeton and the rest of the team to bring viewers all the action from Tokyo – and to cheer home our athletes.” ....
