Obituary: Adam Lewis Palmer, Sept. 18, 1971-Feb. 1, 2021

Adam Lewis Palmer, devoted community servant, husband, father and longtime local of Eagle, Colorado, died unexpectedly on February 1, 2021 at the age of 49. Adam and two friends were caught in a deadly avalanche near Silverton, Colorado, while on a backcountry ski trip.
Adam is survived by his father Wayne Palmer, brother Darrell Palmer, wife Kalie Palmer; daughters Montana and Savanna, dog Benny and cats Pua and HeiHei. He is predeceased by his mother Cheryl Lewis Palmer.
Adam was born on September 18, 1971, in Lynnwood, Washington. He grew up in Port Orchard, Washington, and lived in Anacortes, Washington and Puyallup, Washington, graduating from Puyallup High School. In college at the University of Washington, he joined the Psi Upsilon fraternity, becoming social chair and forming strong bonds with a special group of guys who remain extremely close to this day. He graduated in 1994 with a degree in Ocean and Fisheries Sciences. ....

Students to begin spring semester online, transition back to schools days later at Academy District 20, Fountain-Fort Carson


Students in Colorado Springs largest school district will return to school remotely in January ahead of a return to in-person learning several days later, district officials announced Tuesday.
Most students in Academy School District 20 will resume learning Jan. 6 or 7, online. Elementary students will be the first to transition back to in-person learning, on Jan. 11, and will do so full time. Middle and high school students will return to a hybrid model of learning on Jan. 19, with the exception of Aspen Valley Middle School and Aspen Valley High School, and The Village High School, which will transition to in-person learning on Jan. 11, according to a news release from the district. ....

Several Colorado Springs-area school districts to delay return to in-person learning on recommendation of county health department


The Widefield, Harrison, Cheyenne Mountain, Manitou and Lewis Palmer school districts will postpone students physical return to classrooms in January after a recommendation from county health authorities to do so.
A delay might be prudent, allowing time for districts to see the impact of holiday travel on COVID-19 cases, a representative for El Paso County Public Health said last week.
Adjusting return-to-learn dates for second semester is a conversation in which school leaders and public health are actively engaged, agency spokeswoman Michelle Hewitt said Wednesday. Based on these discussions, there was consensus that it might be prudent to wait a couple weeks after the holidays before having students return to in-person instruction in schools. ....
