Authorities investigate concerns for horse seen at MuleFest

Local authorities are investigating after concerns for a horse seen in last weekend’s MuleFest celebration swept across social media in recent days.
A series of social media posts on various platforms showed photographs of a rider atop a very thin horse.
The mounting inquiries about the horse and its seeming emaciation prompted a response from Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles, one of the event’s primary organizers.
The Hohenwald Police Department s administration confirmed a message from Chief Kip Kelsey that the department launched an investigation into the matter on Tuesday morning. The police department is working in conjunction with the sheriff s department and members of a local humane society. ....

Drug Take Back Day set Saturday in Lowville, Lyons Falls


In cooperation with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, the United Prevention Coalition of Lewis County is sponsoring a National Prescription Take Back Drug Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
There will be two drive-thru drop-off locations — at the Lowville Fire Hall and the Lyons Falls Gym parking lot. Community members are encouraged to drive up and drop off any unused or expired medications and in return receive a goodie bag sponsored by many agencies and nonprofits in Lewis County.
“Recent data shows that 22 percent of Lewis County residents are throwing expired medication in the trash and 23 percent of them also stated they are flushing medications,” Coalition Coordinator Cassie Forbus said. “Having a Take Back Drug Day keeps medications out of the hands of the youth as well as saves our landfills and water supply.” ....

HARRISVILLE — The 2021 class leaders of Harrisville Central School are Brady C. Hall, valedictorian; Amy J. Manchester, salutatorian; and Talon W. LaParr, highest vocational award.
Mr. Hall, son of Jolie and Don Snider, Harrisville; and Jeff and Genny Hall, Gouverneur, has an academic average of 93.4. He will graduate with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Mastery in science and earn advanced placement credits and dual enrollment credits through North Country Community College, Saranac Lake, and Hudson Valley Community College, Troy.
He has played basketball and soccer for four years; lacrosse for one year; and baseball for one years.
