Even then, he knew he would one day have a career in Law. “I was inspired by the work of former Senator John Land,” Caldwell recalled, “I loved to watch him both in the senate and as he practiced law.” Caldwell then went on to attend Clemson University, where he majored in Civil Engineering. Upon graduating from Clemson in 1991, he moved to North Carolina where he worked in the engineering field for a time. “I was sure I wanted a career in law,” Caldwell said, “But at the time, my family also wanted to be sure I could find steady employment. They encouraged me to study engineering and work in the field for a time, so I did.” ....

This event raises awareness and funds to support, shape, and mold young adults of Clarendon and surrounding counties into sound citizens, people of good character, and high integrity by means of Empowerment, Mentorship, and Scholarship. In 1947 Levi Pearson along with his brother Hammett Pearson courageously filed a lawsuit Levi Pearson V. Clarendon County Board of Education, to secure a school bus for their children and other children in the community who walked nine miles to school. The County provided 30 school buses but none for black children. The lawsuit was thrown out based on the rule school officials created to counteract the suit, where Levi Pearson paid his taxes. According to some, this change came as an absolute shock. “Why would we name a school in the Summerton area in honor of a regular employee when we […] have the great honor of being the home to education pioneers,” asked SBHS Graduate Joseph L.
