New York ‘Winery of the Year’ has been down this road before Updated Apr 10, 11:16 AM; Posted Apr 09, 2:46 PM Paumanok Vineyards, in Aquebogue, New York, won Winery of the Year honors for the third time last month. It also won in 2004 and 2015. Facebook Share Paumanok Vineyards has been a Long Island fixture since 1983 when Ursula and Charles Massoud and their three sons brought their “Old World” values and love of wine to a part of the country that was just beginning to realize the potential that terroir offering fro producers. Per their website, they planted premium vinifera grapevines on their 127-acre estate, located on Long Island’s North Fork. Among those grapes were Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. They planted 1,100 to 1,400 vines per acre, which produces more concentrated fruit and higher quality wines. ....
