The Native Council of P.E.I.is working with Health PEI on a plan to administer a COVID-19 vaccine to as many as 1,500 Indigenous Islanders living off reserve.
The council represents status and non-status Indigenous people who are not residing on one of the four reserves overseen by P.E.I. s two First Nations, Lennox Island and Abegweit. (Those reserves are located at Morell, Rocky Point, Scotchfort and Lennox Island.) ....

CHARLOTTETOWN - First Nations groups and Charlottetown city council are at odds over how to deal with a statue of Canada s first prime minister.
Members of the Epekwitk Assembly of Councils â which represents the Abegweit and Lennox Island First Nations â say they want more than just modifications to an existing plaque next to the statue of Sir John A. Macdonald.

Back in March, Julie said she thought the pandemic would pass in time to either continue the tradition normally or with a few adjustments.
At the beginning of it, we thought that there would be a light at the end of the tunnel way before now, she said.
I ve been seeing a lot of online attempts at a powwow, which is actually really cool, says Julie. (Tony Davis/CBC News)
But come late May, Julie said powwows were cancelled.
We have a lot of our elders there and it just would not be good to jeopardize our community in that way, she said. ....
