Apr 7, 2021 TEMPE, Ariz. – Top-15 teams are coming to the valley this weekend as Sun Devil Beach Volleyball hosts the Pac-12 North Invitational on April 10 and 11 on Grand Canyon s courts in Phoenix.
Arizona State (4-7) After a week off, the Sand Devils are back in another conference invitational. At the end of March, Arizona State participated in the Pac-12 South Invitational in Tucson, picking up its first conference win over Washington. Fifth-year senior Katelyn Carballo broke the record for individual career wins in the win over the Huskies. She now has 63 career wins and leads the team with her partner Lexi Sweeney with seven wins this season, on pace to finish in the top 10 for pairs wins in a season. ....
No. 20 Arizona State (0-0) The Sand Devils are ranked No. 20 in the AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll, the same spot the finished the 2020 season. Last season, the team did not lose to an unranked team, continuing a trend from the 2019 season. With a 4-6 record, the team recorded two sweeps against Boise State and Utah. Fifth-year senior Katelyn Carballo returns to the team in 2021, using her fifth COVID year. She played at the No. 1 spot five times last season, playing in the top three spots in every match. Sophomore Lexi Sweeney led the Sand Devils in wins in 2020, finishing the shortened season with a 6-4 record. Next is senior Cierra Flood with five wins, followed by Carballo and junior Maddy Salazar with four. ....
