Has any archdiocese in America been as hostile as Milwaukee to a statewide investigation of clergy sex abuse? 
The recent announcement by Attorney General
Josh Kaul makes Wisconsin the latest of more than 20 states that have launched such investigations. In Georgia, Atlanta Archbishop
Wilton D. Gregoryencouraged the attorney general to do the investigation.  In Missouri, the St. Louis Archdiocese cooperated, handing over its records to the Attorney General. SPRINGFIELD An independent report on how the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield can better address sexual abuse claims, improve transparency and protect the vulnerable is expected to be released next month.
The report is being prepared for Bishop William D. Byrne by the Independent Task Force on the Response to Sexual Abuse, according to Carolee McGrath, diocesan media relations manager. It will include recommendations from Stop It Now!, an outside agency hired by the diocese to gather feedback from survivors on how their allegations could have been better handled. ....

Closures of Catholic schools in Black neighborhoods provoke sense of abandonment

On the evening of Feb. 25, Kimora Williams, 17, and Elijah Brooks, 16, two juniors at Trinity Catholic High School north of St. Louis, both saw emails flash onto their computer screens.
They were from the St. Louis Archdiocese. Trinity Catholic would close at the end of the academic year. The two were stunned.
I was angry. I was confused. I was overwhelmed, Williams told NCR.
A letter attached to the email said that enrollment at the school, located in a predominantly African American area just a 15-minute drive from Ferguson, Missouri, had slipped too low and the building was too old to maintain. ....
