Neal Leads CPS School Board Race in Funding

By William Skipworth & Columbia Missourian • Mar 17, 2021 Some candidates have been more aggressive than others in fundraising for the Columbia School Board race. Some haven t raised any money at all. All fundraising done by candidates is required to be reported to the Missouri Ethics Commission. These reports reflect each campaign s finances as of Feb. 25, 40 days before the election. They tell us a little about who supports the candidates campaigns and what types of people or groups are driving those campaigns. Five candidates are competing for two open seats on the seven-member board. Board members are unpaid and serve three-year terms. Candidates are Lucas Neal, Katherine Sasser, Jeanne Snodgrass, Aron Saylor and incumbent Teresa Maledy. Election day is April 6.

COLUMBIA- Faith Voices and Worley Street Roundtable are set to host a forum for Columbia Board of Education candidates Tuesday evening.  Candidates for the April 6 election include Teresa Maledy, Lucas Neal, Katherine Sasser, Jeanne Snodgrass and Aron Saylor.  Candidates will address how they understand their role in creating an environment of belonging and family safety. Parents, teachers, and students will have the opportunity to ask school board candidates how they will prioritize the human dignity of those most marginalized in the community. Ahead of this forum, the Columbia Missouri National Education Association voted to recommend Katherine Sasser and Jeanne Snodgrass for the upcoming board election on April 6.

Teachers group to host virtual Columbia Board of Education forum

COLUMBIA Mo. (KMIZ) Columbia Board of Education candidates will field questions from teachers at a virtual forum Thursday hosted by the Columbia National Education Association. The forum takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The public is invited but must register to receive a link here. Five candidates are seeking two board seats in the April 6 election: incumbent Teresa Maledy, Lucas Neal, Aron Saylor, Katherine Sasser and Jeanne Snodgrass. My decision to withdraw from the race was a difficult one to make because I really enjoy serving on the board of education. However, at this point in my life, I need to spend more time with my family, Blackburn said.
