City of Rehoboth Beach officials sent out an email that Delaware Department of Transportation had notified them about a request made to raise the Rehoboth and Lewes canal bridges between 2 and 4 p.m., May 6. DelDOT staff are responsible for maintenance and operation of the bridges. ....
Friday, February 12, 2021 Lewes Beach residents used their opportunity to speak at a May 3 public hearing to discourage mayor and city council from passing two controversial ordinances aimed at addressing sea-level rise and source water protection. The ordinances could be considered for a vote by council as early as Monday, May 17; however, Mayor Ted Becker hedged by saying the May 8 election could affect council’s readiness to move forward. While many residents agreed with the spirit of the ordinances, they said the new regulations would hinder their property rights and significantly impact property values on Lewes Beach. The Sussex County Association of Realtors joined with residents in opposition, submitting a letter opposing both proposed ordinances on the basis that they infringe on property rights for about 1,200 property owners. ....

Hazel Brittingham supplied it to Bill who works with old photographs to restore and enhance them. This shows how rough and raw Lewes was a century ago. The Army Corps of Engineers excavated sections of marsh between Lewes Creek on the northwest end of the canal and Rehoboth Creek on the southeast end, and built formal inlets to connect Delaware Bay and Rehoboth Bay for commercial transportation primarily of farm crops. The canal project started in 1913 and first opened to boating traffic in 1916. ....
Reserve now for lighthouse foundation sunset cruises Last year’s only sunset cruise offering from the Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation included this view of the Harbor of Refuge Light. SUBMITTED PHOTOS May 2, 2021 This summer, the Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation will offer two sunset cruises for the public; cost is $35 per person. The monies raised by ticket sales will support the ongoing restoration of the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse. Tours will take place from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, June 5, and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11. Participants are required to be at the dock for check-in a half-hour before departure time. Cruises leave from Anglers Fishing Center, 213 Anglers Road, Lewes, where there is plenty of free parking. Passengers are invited to bring their own beverages and snacks for the outing. ....
Rehoboth Beach Delaware 19958United States A proposed dock for kayaks, canoes and other non-motorized watercraft at the Grande at Canal Pointe just outside Rehoboth Beach has residents who live along the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal taking sides. CP Townhomes LLC (Canal Pointe RPC) has filed to amend condition 15 included in the approval of change of zone 1538 dating back to 2004. The applicant is requesting the condition be removed that states: “No piers, docks, boat ramps or other water-related recreational facilities shall be permitted.” During the hearing, concerns about eagles, precedents and the environment surfaced. Canal Pointe, located along Hebron Road in West Rehoboth, includes 288 single-family homes, and 307 condominiums and townhomes on a 181-acre parcel bordering the canal. ....
