Amherstburg Mayor Aldo DiCarlo remembers as a 12-year-old in the 1970s riding the original bus service connecting his town to Windsor.
That was the Sandwich, Windsor & Amherstburg Railway, which began in the 1880s as a streetcar service between the three communities. It eventually evolved into a municipal bus transit system, dropping service to Amherstburg sometime in the 1970s. In 1977, the SW&A was renamed Transit Windsor.

Transit Windsor and Amherstburg are now poised to enter into negotiations to resume that old relationship, with Transit Windsor contracted to provide a bus route serving the town and connecting it with Windsor and LaSalle, which welcomed Transit Windsor service in 2017.
