Charges: Woman said God told her to abandon child on North Shore highway

A woman allegedly told deputies that God directed her to abandon her barefoot 6-year-old daughter along Minnesota Highway 61 near Grand Portage last week.
Jaydin Danielle Pankow, 39, of Waupaca, Wisconsin, appeared Monday in State District Court on a felony count of neglect or endangerment of a child.
Pankow was arrested after two good Samaritans found the child on the side of the highway around 10 p.m. Thursday. A criminal complaint states that the girl was wearing tights and a jacket, but lacked any footwear or other cold-weather clothing in the near-freezing temperature. ....
