Young local man donates free school supplies to WISD students By Patty Hullett For the Daily Light Javion Anderson, a 2017 graduate of Dallas Can Academy, is a generous young man with a caring heart. Last year, in early 2020, he came up with the idea of helping local school kids from financially stretched households, by taking care of school supplies for the upcoming school year 2021-2022. Last April, Javion enlisted the help of his parents, Jerry and Kimberly Anderson of Waxahachie, his grandmother Gloria Cage of Mesquite and his sister Ke’Myria Anderson. Thus, they began the large project to purchase then fill 65 new backpacks with “free” school supplies. ....

Waxahachie Daily Light As the spring weather comes into full effect, Waxahachie residents have the option to check out each unique park listed throughout the city of Waxahachie. The city has 18 of their public parks and trails posted on their website, allowing residents to access an interactive map that includes the features of each park when they click on the map with it. Out of all the parks, Getzendaner Park is the oldest, located at 400 S. Grand Ave. The 33-acre park provides areas for picnicking, exercising and playing. Amy Borders, the city s director of communication and marketing, shared a few hidden gems the city has to offer. ....
Emory Lakes development covers about 3,000 acres west of Interstate 35E Waxahachie Daily Light A public hearing and action on a resolution creating the Emory Lakes Public Improvement District will be before the Waxahachie City Council during its regular meeting set for Monday night. The new public improvement district, or PID, will cover a major project planned for the west side of Interstate 35E consisting of about 3,000 acres and about 10,000 total lots. In the last City Council meeting on March 14, councilmembers accepted a petition to create the new PID and set the public hearing for Monday. City Manager Michael Scott said the hearing will align with the zoning and development agreement associated with the Emory Lakes development. ....
Public hearings set on North Grove, Emory Lakes developments Waxahachie Daily Light Two public improvement districts, one existing and the other in the process of forming, drew the attention of the Waxahachie City Council during Monday night’s regular meeting. The City Council approved a resolution adding details to the North Grove Public Improvement District. In a separate resolution, the council accepted a petition to create the Emory Lakes Public Improvement District. In both matters, a public hearing will be held, on April 19 for the former and April 5 for the latter. In the North Grove matter, the council will determine the costs of certain improvements to be financed by the North Grove PID. The resolution also sets a preliminary service plan and assessment plan. The public hearing will be on an ordinance levying assessments on property located within Improvement Area No. 2 of the PID. ....
