JUNE - VISIT THE GARDENS AT LISMORE CASTLE & LISMORE CASTLE ARTS

About this event
We are delighted to welcome visitors to the Gardens at Lismore Castle and Lismore Castle Arts. Please note that the access to the Gardens is via a new entrance on the Green Road.
This season we open a new section of the Gardens for the first time. The Reilig Garden, which owes its name to a partial medieval burial ground to the west side of the garden, features an old swimming pool built for Adele Astaire in 1956 and one of the oldest Sitka Spruce trees in Ireland.
Our current exhibition at Lismore Castle Arts, Light and Language, is now open. The exhibition celebrates the work of the late artist Nancy Holt and includes a selection of Holt’s work spanning 1966 through to 1982. The exhibition also presents the work of contemporary artists A.K. Burns, Matthew Day Jackson, Dennis McNulty, Charlotte Moth, and Katie Paterson who respond to ideas of light and language. ....

.- Nancy Holt (1938-2014) recalibrated the limits of art. She expanded the places where art could be found and embraced the new media of her time. A pioneer of site-specific installation and the moving image, Holt was a member of the earth, land, and conceptual art movements. Her rich artistic output spanned concrete poetry, audio, film, video, photography, slideworks, ephemeral gestures, drawings, room-sized installations, earthworks, books, and public sculpture commissions. Across five decades Holt asked questions about how we might understand our place in the world, investigating systems of perception and expanding understanding of place. ....

The Art World at Home: Foundation Director Lisa Le Feuvre Is Bird-Watching and Inviting Artists to Make Work on a Private Island

Lisa Le Feuvre, the head of the Holt-Smithson Foundation, which she has led since 2017, spends a lot of time reading. In fact, it’s how she begins most of her mornings, although she doesn’t consider it a luxury. Education for all is one of her passions.
We spoke with Le Feuvre about her recent work with the artists’ foundation, what she’s been reading of late, and why she advocates for literacy initiatives.
What are you working on right now?
We are a young organization, and with each day, we are building the roots of Holt–Smithson Foundation. At the core of our foundation’s work is establishing information on each work Nancy Holt and Robert Smithson made, so we have an ongoing pattern of research where we talk, listen, read, and frown over the biographies of each artwork. ....
