'Starting point:' Quebec First Nation signs five-year fisheries agreement with Ottawa

POINTE-A-LA-CROIX, QUE.
An Indigenous community in eastern Quebec has signed a five-year agreement with Ottawa to develop a collaborative approach to governing the band s fisheries.
The federal Fisheries Department issued a statement Sunday saying the Rights Reconciliation Agreement on Fisheries represents a starting point for discussions with the Listuguj First Nation.
Fisheries Minister Bernadette Jordan says the agreement allows for a collaborative approach to fisheries governance and upholds the treaty rights of Mi kmaq First Nations to harvest and sell fish in pursuit of a moderate livelihood.
Jordan says the agreement could help the band achieve economic self-reliance by obtaining more fishing licences, as well as more boats and gear. ....

The mayor of Campbellton won t be seeking re-election next month after a five-year term that was at times bruising because of personal attacks.
Last week, Stéphanie Anglehart-Paulin announced in a 20-minute Facebook video that she will not be seeking re-election on May 10.

Listuguj First Nation man dead after car collides with pickup truck near Campbellton, N.B.

A 25-year-old man from Listuguj First Nation, Que., has died and a 28-year-old man from Campbellton, N.B., is in hospital after a head-on collision involving a car and a one-ton pickup truck near Campbellton, N.B., on Sunday.
Campbellton RCMP say at approximately 2:35 p.m. on Dec. 13, officers responded to a report of a head-on collision involving a car and pickup truck on Route 11.
Police believe the collision occurred when the car travelling southbound crossed the centreline and collided with the pickup truck travelling northbound.
The passenger of the car, a 25-year-old man from Listuguj First Nation, died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. ....
