Greenfield councilor proposes large cut to assessors budget DESORGHER Related stories GREENFIELD After completing deliberations, the City Council Ways and Means Committee sent the mayor’s fiscal year 2022 budget of almost $54.5 million to the full council with a positive recommendation, but also with a $107,500 cut to the assessors budget that reduces it from $208,849 to just over $101,000. Precinct 3 City Councilor Virginia “Ginny” DeSorgher proposed the cut, and though at least two of the five members of the Ways and Means Committee spoke out to say they would not support it, especially in a revaluation year, the committee voted unanimously to forward the budget with the proposed reduction so that the full City Council can discuss it. ....

Staff File Photo/PAUL FRANZ Published: 4/8/2021 8:29:11 PM GREENFIELD The city began its public phase of budget season on Wednesday, with City Council’s Ways and Means Committee commencing its discussion of Greenfield’s capital budget and the projects included in it. Mayor Roxann Wedegartner said she began working with Finance Director Liz Gilman last November on both the capital and operating budgets for fiscal year 2022, which begins July 1. “The timing of what we do is dictated by the city charter,” Wedegartner said. “Last year, (former Mayor) Bill (Martin) had already worked on the budget before I took office, so I didn’t deviate from it greatly, especially since the pandemic was raging during budget season.” ....
