Company hired to restore area under Iron Gate, Copco, JC Boyle reservoirs after dam removal

Aside from the amount of sediment that will be washed downriver once the dams are removed, one of the main arguments against removing the dams is plummeting property values for those who live on the shores of Iron Gate, Copco and JC Boyle reservoirs, both in Oregon and Siskiyou County.
Supporters of dam removal say that although they’ll no longer have lakeside property, property owners will instead be living along a healthy river with many recreational opportunities.
The design and management plans described in the agreement “fulfill the stringent permitting criteria of regulatory agencies involved in the project,” including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, fisheries agencies in California and Oregon, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, according to the press release. ....

Siskiyou Daily News
A plan to ensure there will be adequate water with which to fight wildfires if four Klamath dams are removed was unveiled Friday by the Klamath River Renewal Corporation.
According to a KRRC press release, California and Oregon fire protection agencies have “signaled support” for the draft plan and the organization plans to submit it to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission late next month, along with “several other management documents.”
One of the main arguments for keeping the dams is that firefighters use water from the dam’s resultant reservoirs to fight fires. ....

In the fall of 1934, George rented the Staff Wilson house and 600 acres on Patterson Creek from owner Leland Young for $1,700. It included pasture and timber land. After his wild horse gathering adventure, Bob went back to Arizona. He likely took the train. Hearst was still living with Paul Denny, at Oak Farm, working half-day for Denny earning $1 each half-day. The other half of the day, Hearst fed and managed the Dillman cattle.
During the winter of 1935, it snowed and snowed and seemed to Hearst that all he did was shovel snow off buildings to keep the roofs from caving. Rose Ann remarked the Staff Wilson house was the coldest place she had ever lived. They did have running water that flowed through a buried wooden pipe-line from Patterson Creek. The pipes were hollowed-out logs that were fitted-together with metal bands. ....
