[email protected] IRON MOUNTAIN A small cabin at the center of City Park will be rehabilitated, thanks to a $25,000 memorial fund contribution and the efforts of a local ski club. In 2017, the Menominee Range Nordic Ski Club gained permission from the city to use the former “rangers cabin” at the park as a warming shack and youth ski league storage space. However, it needs work, including new windows and a door, a fireplace insert and chimney repair, City Manager Jordan Stanchina said. Recently, the August Lilja Trust committed $25,000 to the project, the city council learned Monday. With the donation, the ski club is prepared to complete the project in 2021. ....

The August Lilja Trust has promoted and completed many beautification efforts in the Iron Mountain area over the years and the committee that makes the decisions as to the yearly project or projects would welcome ideas from the community. Unfortunately, the work can only be done within the Iron Mountain city limits; this is according to the will of the donor. If you have an idea or ideas, please put your suggestions in writing and leave at City Hall with a note to pass it on to the Lilja Trust Committee.
