A Sure Disaster Summary Rating SeeYouSpaceCowboy were releasing a split EP with If I Die First, my heart sank. Because while I love the former to death, finding them to be one of the new metalcore greats, I simply cannot stand the latter. SeeYouSpaceCowboy represents the stronger side of the 2000’s metalcore revival wave crashing over lately with their solid label debut and fantastic debut full-length in 2019. Whereas to me, If I Die First represented the weakest kind of nasally, whiny emo-post-hardcore resurgence also taking root nowadays with their woeful 2020 EP, ‘ My Poison Arms.’ Outside of really appreciating hearing more of guitarist and screamer ....
From Hardcore to Harajuku: The Origins of Scene Subculture TikToker Madeline Pendleton and early metal and hardcore scenester Ethan Stewart recall the scene subculture of the ’00s. The popularity of the scene subculture was one of the more distinctive moments in the history of alternative fashion and subculture. Defined by its bright coloured clothing, racoon tail-inspired hair dyeing, and musical groups as stylistically different as All Time Low, Asking Alexandria, and 3OH!3, it entered the mainstream in the mid-2000s through influencers and musicians who gained attention via MySpace. Although scene kids were associated with musical styles like metalcore, crunkcore, and neon pop-punk, there was never a “scene” genre the way there was for other subcultures like punk, emo or goth. Because of this, scene subculture’s origins aren’t as clean-cut as other parts of alternative music history, going back to a time when emo was still associated with hardcore. ....
Its title bears the phrase A Sure Disaster, but the upcoming split between SeeYouSpaceCowboy and If I Die First finds perfect harmony in the key of core. The former s righteous sasscore at once grindy, chuggy and flamboyantly weird and the latter s piercing yet melodic post-hardcore are two different sides of the white belt coin, but when they literally collide on the project s collaborative title track, bloodstainedeyes, it fucking works. Between its masterful centerpiece and the two songs from each band that bookend it, the split that s due out May 14th via Pure Noise Records is one of the most exciting heavy pairings in recent memory (you can pre-order it now). ....
