With the help of entities like the California Labor Commissioner s Office, Cal/OSHA, and many others, local organizations like Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) and Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE) were able to get a team together to visit local fields and talk to farmworkers. The caravan began Wednesday in Santa Maria. The goal is to help farm workers know their rights. Several advocate groups such as Mixteco Indigena Organizing Project(MICOP), CAUSE, Lideres Campesinas are taking part in this, along with state agencies such as the Department of Labor and the workplace safety group Cal-Osha. Three California grocery stores cited for not providing employees with paid COVID-19 sick leave By Amorette Marcus LOS ANGELES - The California Labor Commissioner’s Office has cited three El Super grocery stores for a total of more than $447,000 after they allegedly failed to provide paid sick leave to 95 employees affected by COVID-19, officials announced Tuesday. Employees complained that they were told to come to work until they received their test results regardless of whether or not they were experiencing symptoms or were directly exposed to someone who already tested positive for the virus, according to the California Labor Commissioner. Workers also reportedly claimed they were told to apply for unemployment while quarantining. ....

SAN DIEGO Flanked by labor leaders, San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan on Monday announced a new unit that will prosecute criminal business practices, including wage theft and labor trafficking. “We are not going to allow workers to be exploited by heartless, greedy employers who break the law to line their own pockets,” Stephan said in a statement after she made the announcement outside the San Diego County Administration Center.
