Michael Tidwell, the president of International Fraternity Sigma Lambda Beta, and the rest of the fraternity decided to prepare this petition as an attempt to break away from the racist backgrounds behind the names of the halls. “We decided to advocate for this because of our national mission which, in part, includes to nurture and further a dynamic, values-based environment,” he said. “The Rho Epsilon chapter feels that continuing to memorialize and honor people who, in their lifetime, advocated for the systemic oppression of people and have no to little connection to the university is not consistent with the inclusive environment that VSU is working to foster.” ....
