LAS CRUCES - You might have noticed new signage near the Rio Grande recently. This effort by the U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission is yet another action taken to discourage people from violating rules along the levees.
Doña Ana County residents have long flocked to the river as a place to recreate, whether water is flowing or not. But for the past decade or so, many have violated rules against ATVs, discharge of firearms, camping and other prohibited activities that cause disturbances and put community members and ecosystems at risk.

Doña Ana County doubles holiday card goal for seniors Leah Romero, Las Cruces Sun-News © Leah Romero/Sun-News About 2,500 holiday cards were collected from the community for seniors living in aging and long-term care facilities in Doña Ana County.
LAS CRUCES – The Las Cruces community helped the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department exceed their goal of 1,000 holiday cards for the seniors living in Doña Ana County nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
The letter campaign was an effort to ensure roughly 1,000 senior facility residents in the county received at least one holiday card this season. The COVID-19 pandemic has kept families from visiting their loved ones in person for much of this year, so the state department’s goal was to bring some holiday cheer to the residents and let them know they have not been forgotten.
