A new $22 million pool in Linwood is set to open on October 1 this year – ahead of schedule and within budget, the city council says. The new pool, on the corner of Linwood Ave and Smith St, will have a multi-use 25-metre lane pool, a deep-water splash pool, a family spa pool, learn-to-swim pool, and a pool for toddlers. It also has community rooms and a kitchen. In April this year, the council began recruiting managers and other staff. On Tuesday, the council confirmed the new opening date and also said it had begun training a team to operate the pool. ....
Akron police are searching for the suspect in a deadly Sunday morning shooting in the city’s Middlebury neighborhood. The shooting occurred in the 800 block of Hazel Street at 3:40 a.m. Sunday, according to a police report. Police arrived at the private residence to find a 26-year-old man in a private driveway with an apparent gunshot wound to the neck. The man, whose name is being withheld pending an autopsy Monday, was pronounced dead at Summa Akron City Hospital. Police say the suspect was gone before they arrived. A SWAT team searched a nearby home but could not locate the suspect, who is still at large. ....

There were cops around me, but no one was talking. Even the birds had stopped chirping. There was complete silence. I felt like the loneliest person in the world.” ....
