Softball team advances to NCAA championship The UNG softball team clinched the NCAA Southeast Regional title with 4-0 and 3-1 victories against Lincoln Memorial University on May 22 at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park. For the first time since 2018, the University of North Georgia (UNG) softball team is headed to the NCAA Division II championship. As the No. 4 seed in the Elite Eight, UNG will begin the double-elimination event at 3:30 p.m. May 27 against fifth-seeded Biola University in Denver, Colorado. The Trojans routed both LaFayette (64-12) and Oconee County (70-12) while losing just one actual match on the mat while advancing to next week’s Class 3A State Duals. “We’re just trying to wrestle hard and keep improving. I thought we were good today,” North Hall coach David Nichols said. Despite not carrying a 106-pound wrestler this season, the Trojans were impregnable in the lower weights.
