PEORIA – Eleven-year-old Cole Lystila loves his ukulele.
A fifth grader at Lindbergh Middle School in Peoria, Cole got the instrument in lieu of a more traditional band instrument at the beginning of the virtual school year. He wasn’t expecting it.
“It was a complete surprise to us,” said Cole’s mother Megan Lystila. “They just called one day and told us to come pick up the ukulele.”
Cole said the instrument was confusing at first, but after a few days he started to enjoy playing it. On Monday, his rendition of the Disney song “I Lava You” was to be part of a virtual recital hosted by his teacher, Atsuko Masuyama. In addition to playing, Cole was also planning to sing. ....
