They talk about the BSO like some giant corporation. But don’t compare Volpe to any business tycoon. He started like everyone in the music industry - trying to get a good gig playing his instrument. April 8, 2021 | By Susan Elliott, Musical America With only 50 percent of its usual offerings, the six-week Tanglewood Music Festival will kick off July 10 with an all-Beethoven program including the Fifth Symphony, a nod to the Festival’s original opening concert in 1937, since the event marks a reopening after a year of silence in the Berkshires (and 16 months without live performances by the full BSO). The grounds will open, free to the public, on June 15. Also on opening concert, with Music Director Andris Nelsons on the podium, is the Fifth Piano Concerto with Festival favorite Emanuel Ax and the Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus. ....
