The British playwright, director and actor Kwame Kwei-Armah has signed with CAA and Redefine Entertainment.
He currently serves as the artistic director for the Young Vic in London and was previously artistic director of Baltimore Center Stage. Kwei-Armah most recently wrote “All Rise,” a musical about how Viagra came to market inside Pfizer, with “The Trial of the Chicago 7’s” Matt Jackson set to produce and Spike Lee on board to direct.

As a writer and director, his original musical adaptation of “Twelfth Night,” written with Shaina Taub, opened at the Delacorte Theater in New York City to critical raves and was named one of Time Magazine’s 10 best plays and musicals of 2018. ....

“Nomadland” director Chloé Zhao, fresh off a Golden Globe nomination, has been set to write, produce and direct a new take on “Dracula” for Universal based on their iconic monster movie character.
However, Zhao’s “Dracula” is described as a futuristic, sci-fi Western and far from the traditional story or even modern adaptations.
Zhao will write, direct and produce through her production company Highwayman.
It’s worth noting that this will be a separate feature from another “Dracula” project Blumhouse is producing from director Karyn Kusama. Universal has been committed to keeping up its monster movie IP with filmmaker-driven projects after the success of “The Invisible Man” with Elisabet ....

'Nomadland' Filmmaker Chloe Zhao Tackling Sci-Fi Western 'Dracula' for Universal (Exclusive)


Nomadland filmmaker Chloé Zhao has found a new project into which she can sink her teeth.
Zhao has teamed up with Universal Pictures to join the studio’s classic film monster repertoire, developing a feature project based on the most famous vampire of all, Dracula.

Zhao will write, direct and produce through her production company, Highwayman.
This new Dracula project, however, will be a far cry from the more traditional or even modern incarnations made over the years. Details are being kept in the coffin, but Zhao’s version is described as an original, futuristic, sci-fi Western. Themes of being on society’s fringes, something Zhao has tackled in her previous work, will course through the project’s veins. ....
