Wegmans joins effort to keep flares from harming Canandaigua Lake MPNnow Chemical-free flares to light up the lakes this Fourth of July, Labor Day and beyond will be a bit easier to come by thanks to the efforts of local watershed watchdogs. Efforts spearheaded by a Canandaigua Lake resident promoting noncombustible LED flares got a boost recently when Wegmans signed on. The Rochester area-based supermarket chain will sell LED flares in its Canandaigua store and donate a portion of each sale to two area lake-preservation groups. “More are recognizing the value of these chemical-free flares and saying, ‘let’s go for it,’” said Greg Talomie, the Canandaigua Lake resident who fired up the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association and others to promote an environmentally friendly option. ....
