Prosecutor: Linden Man, 68, Touched Himself While Making Sexual Comments To Child At Local Park

A 68-year-old Linden man has arrested on charges of sex assault and related offenses after making explicit comments to a child at a local park while touching himself, authorities said.
Paul J. Schappe, Jr. is facing second- and third-degree charges, respectively, after approaching a child playing basketball at Clifford Lawson Memorial Park and making sexual comments while touching himself over his clothing around 1 p.m. on May 2, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo said in a joint release with Linden Police Chief David Hart.
The victim was under 13 at the time of the incident, police said. ....

After police handcuffed a Perth Amboy teenager and confiscated his and three friends’ bicycles after a wheelie-filled ride through traffic captured on video last week, dozens of cyclists held a ride in support of their younger two-wheeled compatriots on Monday night.
“We wanted to support the young men who wanted to ride without being arrested,” said Alturrick Kenney, 44, a member of the largely Black, Newark-based RBG Cycling group, who is also the Essex County surrogate. “We feel that laws that discourage people from cycling should be removed from the books.” ....

Clinton police are asking for the public s help as a part of their investigation into numerous motor vehicle thefts and break-ins.
Officials said the incidents have been taking place in the area of Airline Road.

CLINTON The Clinton Police Department is investigating numerous reports Saturday of stolen motor vehicles and car break ins along Airline Road.
On Sunday, a spokesperson for the police department said that one car was confirmed stolen and had not yet been found. Police did not offer an exact number of incidents in which suspects broke into cars.
Police officials ask those with a Ring Doorbell or any other video monitoring service to check the videos for anything suspicious.
The break ins and stolen vehicles are still under investigation. Officials are asking the public to come forward with any information on this matter by contacting the Clinton Police department. ....
