Vermont gets over $100,000 for Northern Forest Destination Development Initiative

“For the second year in a row, this unique partnership has identified crucial projects in our region that support what those of us who live here have known for a long time, that this is
theplace to recreate outdoors and to build a business that enables outstanding experiences for both returning visitors and new friends,” said Rich Grogan, executive director of the Northern Border Regional Commission.
The $317,526 granted this year leverages matching funds and in-kind project support for a total $515,491 investment in community-based outdoor recreation amenities. Coupled with 10 grants awarded in 2020, the initiative’s support for outdoor recreation infrastructure in the region totals $619,317 in grant funds toward a total $1.1 million investment in recreation projects. ....

Consultant recommends new KTA welcome center in East Burke Village

After a year-long analysis, consultants hired by Kingdom Trails Association (KTA) recommend building a new welcome center in East Burke Village and creating new access points and parking for its popular 80-mile trail network.
KTA, a nonprofit organization, manages a spiderweb of trails around the village of East Burke, extending west into Lyndon on both sides of Darling Hill Road and east into East Haven. The network relies on the generosity of over 90 private landowners, who allow trails on their properties without compensation. A decade of rapid growth led to stress on residents, landowners, and infrastructure. In December 2019, three landowners along Darling Hill decided to no longer allow bike access on their properties. The restricted land totals hundreds of acres and contains some of the networkâs most popular and beginner trails. ....

VCF awards grants to 64 nonprofits through its Spark program

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Community Foundation announced today that in partnership with many of its generous fundholders $169,711.94 in Spark Connecting Community grants has been awarded to 64 nonprofit organizations for local projects in communities across the state, including some nonprofits that serve residents in multiple counties. Of the total funding awarded, $77,950 was made possible by Giving Together, a program at the Community Foundation that shares grant proposals with fundholders and donors to give them the opportunity to co-fund projects.
Spark Connecting Community is a competitive grant program at the Foundation that puts building and nurturing community front and center. The Community Foundation aims to support the work happening throughout Vermont’s 251 towns that builds social capital.
