The provincial disaster risk reduction and management office (PDRRMO) of Batangas called on the national government on Sunday, July 4, to provide additional supply of masks, medicines, family tents for isolation, and other medical equipment as some evacuees particularly children in packed evacuation centers started catching cold, cough, and other diseases due to Taal Volcano’s continuous emission of toxic gases.

Lito Castro, chief of Batangas PDRRMO, said the local government unit (LGU) has deployed healthcare workers and mobile clinics to cater to the needs of those who are getting sick in evacuation centers.

In less than 24 hours, nearly 1,000 residents in Batangas have left their homes to seek safer shelters amid the continued unrest of Taal Volcano, a disaster management official disclosed Saturday, July 3.

Lito Castro, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) in Batangas, said the number of evacuues has increased to 2,429 Saturday noon from 1,495 Friday night.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 2) More than 1,200 residents of areas near Taal Volcano are taking shelter in evacuation centers a day after it recorded its latest phreatomagmatic eruption, a local disaster official said Friday.
Lito Castro, head of the Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management told CNN Philippines New Day that as of 5 a.m., around 317 families or 1,282 residents from high-risk areas have fled to evacuation centers as a preemptive evacuation.
At least 28 families or 110 residents also sought refuge in the homes of nearby relatives, he added.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 2) The Philippine Insitute of Volcanology and Seismology on Friday said it recorded 29 volcanic earthquakes, including an explosion type of tremor, in the past 24 hours as it maintained Alert Level 3 for Taal Volcano a day after its phreatomagmatic eruption.
High levels of emissions of volcanic sulfur dioxide and steam-laden plumes that rose 3,000 meters high from the main crater before drifting south were observed, Phivolcs said in its 8 a.m. bulletin.
Sulfur dioxide emission averaged at 13,287 tons per day on July 1, with smog seen over and near Taal Volcano, Phivolcs said.
