Matildas unite behind Aboriginal flag in Olympics

The Matildas shrugged off five matches without a win by defeating New Zealand 2-1 in the opening match of the Tokyo Olympics with Sam Kerr scoring the second goal with New Zealand claiming a consolation late. 
Ahead of the match, the Matildas posed with the Aboriginal flag, in the midst of a stand by sporting teams against racial injustice around the world. New Zealand took the knee, as did many other teams throughout the opening matches of the Olympics.
“We are really proud of it,” Matildas captain Sam Kerr said afterwards.
“It was something that we spoke a lot to as a team. ....

The Australian national women s football team, the Matildas, have started their Olympic campaign with a bang.
Their quest for a gold medal began on Thursday night, defeating New Zealand in a 2-1 tussle in the first match. 
Ahead of kick-off - Global audiences were treated to a show of solidarity as the side huddled together to proudly display the Aboriginal flag.

Five women’s soccer teams took a knee ahead of their opening matches at the 2020 Summer Games.
Great Britain and Chile teams took a knee on the pitch before their match, and the United States and Sweden teams knelt ahead of their clash on Wednesday.
