'This is insane': NC officer seriously injured in shooting, expected to be OK

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. (WTVD) A North Carolina police chief said she is thankful that her officer is recovering after being seriously injured in a Saturday night shooting.
ABC-affiliate WSOC, reports that the shooting happened just after 8 p.m. near the Kings Mountain Country Club in Cleveland County.
Kings Mountain Police Chief Lisa Proctor said Corporal Frank Lee Whittington Jr., a 13-year department veteran, was responding to a call about a suspicious person when the shooting happened.
She said someone in a house called the police to report the suspicious person on their back porch. The suspect then ran towards the country club where Whittington confronted the man resulting in a shootout. ....

North Carolina Police Officer Shot -- 4th in Two Weeks

A suspect allegedly shot a Kings Mountain, North Carolina, police officer Saturday night during an exchange of gunfire. This is the fourth shooting of a Charlotte-area officer in the past two weeks, officials say.
A Kings Mountain resident contacted police about a suspicious person on their back porch Saturday night, WSOC TV9 reported. Dispatchers sent Corporal Frank Lee Whittington, Jr. to investigate.
Whitting confronted the suspect near a country club. During the contact, the officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire and left both shooters injured, the local news outlet reported.
Kings Mountain Police Chief Lisa Proctor told reporters that Whittington was out of surgery and is expected to recover. She did not disclose the nature of his injuries. ....

Police respond to officer-involved shooting Saturday in Kings Mountain

A Kings Mountain Police officer is expected to recover after being shot Saturday night while responding to a suspicious person call near the country club in Kings Mountain. The suspected shooter also was injured in the shooting.
Kings Mountain Police Cpl. Frank Lee Whittington Jr. was taken to Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby after exchanging fire with an unidentified man after responding to a call about a suspicious person at a home on Downing Drive, said Kings Mountain Police Chief Lisa Proctor.
“We are very thankful that he is alive and that we are not planning funeral number three in the last week and a half for another law enforcement officer,” Proctor said. ....
