LC Board of Education recognizes Of the Year winners | News

The bulk of the meeting of the Lincoln County Board of Education on Tuesday, May 11, was spent recognizing students and staff members for their achievements.  Pierson Rickard, an eighth grade East Lincoln Middle School student, who was named seventh chair trombone in the North Carolina All State Band. He was the only Lincoln County student to make the All-State Band. The East Lincoln High School Cheval Winter Guard competed in the 2021 Virtual Winter Guard International World Championships and received the rating of “outstanding” for their performance. They also received first place in their local competition, the Carolina Winter Assemble Association.

2021 Robinson-Lineberger winners announced

The winners for the 37 th annual Robinson-Lineberger Literary Competition were recently announced at an awards ceremony held at the Lincoln Cultural Center. This competition is sponsored by the Trustees of the Flo Robinson Estate and the Robert Lineberger Estate to memorialize Flo Robinson’s lifelong interest in poetry and prose and to encourage local writers in the pursuit of excellence in their craft. The 2021 Robinson Lineberger Literary Winners are as follows: Elementary Prose 1st Place went to Evangeline Kunkle, a student at Pumpkin Center Intermediate School for “The Promise” 2nd Place went to Jamie Carpenter, a student at Rock Springs Elementary for “I was Born on March First”

Lincolnton High School spirit rock vandalized

What might have been a harmless high school prank turned into a message of hate and racism. The West Lincoln High School football team played Lincolnton High School on Saturday. The evening prior to, Mike Wirth, who lives across the street from the high school, witnessed approximately 10 young people painting the spirit rock at Lincolnton High School. He said he didn’t think anything of it thinking it was just a high school caper. There was something to it beyond high school shenanigans. In addition to “WL” being painted over the Lincolnton High School name, swastika symbols were painted on the rock as well as the word “nigger.”
