New facility to locate at former Lincoln Development Center

The long-shuttered Lincoln Development Center will soon see a rebirth of activity. Lincoln City Council members heard a presentation from the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice Monday on plans for an Illinois Youth Center that will use a portion of the Lincoln Development Center grounds.
IDJJ is proposing to house children who have committed a crime and teach them better behavior in order to become productive citizens of society.
Heidi Mueller, director of IDJJ, told the council of future development at LDC.
“We have been granted the rights to the Lincoln Development Center. We have facilities in Chicago and Harrisburg but failed to invest in central Illinois and this is an opportunity to help Illinois families,” Mueller said. ....
