Palm Beach Symphony takes PBC students to the moon with interactive concert

Palm Beach County students will be taking a virtual trip to the moon this fall with the Palm Beach Symphony’s One Small Step concert.
Recording of the music for the interactive concert, with the participation of the Demetrius Klein Dance Company, was filmed at the Kravis Center Monday. It was the first time the Palm Beach Symphony had performed on the Kravis Center stage since the coronavirus pandemic forced the organization to cancel all of its in-person concerts for the season.
The program seeks to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the first lunar landing, and to teach students about the Earth’s rotation, gravity and lunar phases. It does so through the character Rocky de Luna, a moon rock who hitches a ride back to Earth on the Apollo 11 spaceship, in the company of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. ....

When Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away on September 18, it sent shockwaves around the world, impacting people in many ways.
For Brooklyn College adjunct piano professor Jeffrey Biegel, it was a loss that touched him on many levels. Coming from a law enforcement family his father was the youngest captain in the NYPD in the 1970s, serving in three precincts, while his grandfather was a lieutenant before that he was raised with a healthy respect for justice that Ginsburg dedicated her life to.

Ginsburg also loved music. So Biegel, a world-renowned concert pianist and composer who teaches in the School of Visual, Media and Performing Arts, found the most fitting way to honor the woman whom he deeply admired. Reflection of Justice: An Ode to Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a solo piano composition and homage he composed over several days in October to immortalize the legendary Supreme Court Justice who did so much for so many. ....
