LOS LUNASâThe New Mexico state auditor has expressed concerns about a litany of findings in the annual audit of a local school district. State Auditor Brian Colón sent a letter to Los Lunas Board of Education members and Superintendent Arsenio Romero highlighting what he called âsignificant concernsâ about findings in the Los Lunas Schools annual audit for fiscal year 2020. The audit report, completed by Jaramillo Accounting Group, contained eight findings in total, the first of which was a laundry list of potential violations of the Open Meetings Act, state and district procurement code, Inspection of Public Records Act and Governmental Conduct Act. ....
LOS LUNASÂ â The Los Lunas Board of Education voted 4-1 Tuesday to send students back to the classroom for in-person learning starting at the high school level and then with middle school and elementary school after. The motion was made by board president Bryan Smith and seconded by David Vickers â and this time voted in approval by board members Frank Otero and Eloy Giron. Steven Otero voted against the motion. Los Lunas Superintendent Arsenio Romeroâs presentation on returning to school on Tuesday focused on the idea of allowing choice for parents and students to either stay in a remote model or head back to the classroom for in-person learning. ....
LOS LUNAS â The Los Lunas teachers union and school district havenât been on the same page regarding a return to in-person learning. NEA Los Lunas, which represents local educators, filed a prohibited practice complaint with the Public Employee Labor Relations Board, claiming the district has violated certain sections of the Public Employee Bargaining Act. âWe have been actively attempting to collaborate with the district regarding their plans for re-entry and are not opposed to many of their recommendations,â a statement from NEA Los Lunas to its members read. âHowever, the district has not, to this point, included us in any formal conversations or negotiations.â ....
