SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe Refuse is donating two of its dump trucks to the City of Ameca, the sister city of South Lake Tahoe located in Jalisco, Mexico. John Marchini of South Tahoe Refuse was part of the first Sister City delegation from South Lake Tahoe that visited Ameca in February, 2020. During that visit they toured the city s wastewater treatment facility, its disposal services and landfill. With Marchini s assistance they are looking at the possibility of relocating that landfill and becoming more environmentally conscious. ....
Mexico Edition. Mexicans living abroad could cast their vote online in this year’s midterm elections after voting for almost 15 years by mail. This year, Mexico will hold 13 gubernatorial races and hundreds of congressional races. Eight of the states in which a new governor will be elected allow voting from abroad, including Michoacán, Colima, Zacatecas and Nayarit. The online voting system will be tested and assessed to be extended to the 2024 presidential election. The liaison with Mexican emigres also comments on a renewed program to report extorsions and bribes against migrants, the plans to restart efforts to help families and communities to invest US remittances, and the reported neglect on returned families and unocumented migrants in need of legal aid. ....
Staff Report SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. The “Feel Good Movement,” organized by Lake Tahoe AleWorX owner Luca Genasci, ended with thousands of dollars being injected into the local economy. Genasci created the month-long December event that was supported by Overland Meat and Seafood Company owners Brian and Kim Cohen and the city of South Lake Tahoe, which gave $10,000 of the $35,000 that was contributed to local restaurants. Genasci and Cohen opened $100 tabs at different local restaurants everyday in the month of December. With other community member contributions, the tab would sometimes reach over $1,000. Gift cards ready for distribution to those in need in the community. ....
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. During a year that has been dark for many, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department has aimed to be a beacon of light with its “12 Days of Kindness” campaign. SLTPD partnered with Tahoe AleWorx to pay it forward. SLTPD donated $600 worth of gifts to Christmas Cheer Officer Nixon dressed up as Santa to deliver gifts. SLTPD thanked Blessed Hands Barbershop and the Tahoe Homeless Coalition for giving haircuts to those in need. SLTPD purchased 40 turkeys from Overland Meat. The police and fire associations gave back to Barton Health employees. Day one started with a gift basket purchase at Cork and More. ....
