Salt Lake City opens a new permanent-housing complex for homeless

Spenser Heaps, Deseret News Salt Lake City took another step Thursday to provide housing for the homeless with the grand opening of a new permanent-housing complex. Magnolia, a 65-unit facility at 165 S. 300 East, will serve single men and women by providing stable housing and services to help address the issues that resulted in their homelessness.

Derry man dies after found unresponsive in Washington jail cell

A Derry Township man died in his cell in the Washington County jail Thursday afternoon, the Washington County coroner said. The death of Gregory S. Roddy, 53, of New Derry, is being investigated as a suicide, Coroner Timothy Warco reported. A determination on the cause and manner of death is pending, the a coroner said. A jail guard found Roddy unresponsive in his cell around 1:30 p.m. He was transported to Washington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency department at 2:30 p.m., the coroner said.
