As we reported recently, the aviation-themed TV miniseries, Masters of the Air, has officially begun filming in Britain. Based upon Donald L. Miller's compelling book, Masters of the Air: America's Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany, the production will follow the true and deeply personal story of the American bomber crews who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep in World War II. The saga is the third small-screen limited series collaboration between producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, who also shepherded the highly-acclaimed WWII epics Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010) for HBO. The B.C. government killed 237 wolves as part of its wolf cull program over the winter despite a court challenge on the legality of the aerial practice. Pacific Wild, a B.C.-based environmental group, launched a legal petition in July 2020 claiming the province’s wolf cull program is unlawful because it contradicts wildlife regulations and federal aviation laws. But because of COVID-19 and court delays, a hearing date hasn’t yet been set. The wolf cull involves radio-collaring single wolves, tracking them to their packs, and then aerial gunning the animals from helicopters. The government program is supposed to help caribou populations rebound, but its efficacy is widely disputed by environmentalists and biologists. ....
More than 60 years ago, Warren Fudge stepped onto the stage of Sturgis Public Schools history. He arrived in the city in 1957, hired as superintendent, and worked at the school until 1974, when he was hired as superintendent at Calhoun County Intermediate School District. He wasn t away from the Sturgis community for long. When Fudge passed away Feb. 20, 2021 he was at his home on Klinger Lake at age 97. His legacy as an influential educational leader and gentleman endures in the community. Larry McConnell followed Fudge and served as Sturgis superintendent slightly longer than his predecessor. “He was certainly a gentleman,” McConnell said. Certainly a conscientious superintendent. The district was in pretty good order when I came. ....
