A series of new reports unveil that America’s top CEOs had a big year in 2020 during the pandemic. One Rhode Island CEO made over $27 million in 2020.
“Median pay for the chief executives of more than 300 of the biggest U.S. public companies reached $13.7 million last year, up from $12.8 million for the same companies a year earlier and on track for a record, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis,” reports the WSJ.
More than 110,000 American restaurants have closed according to the National Restaurant Association in data it released in January. ....

Health-insurer and hospital CEOs scored big paydays in 2020, a year defined by the pandemic.
Six out of eight CEOs made more last year than in 2019 on stock options and awards.
The paydays came as big insurers and some health systems grew profits despite COVID-19 challenges.
The CEOs of some of the biggest healthcare companies brought home tens of millions more in pay in 2020, despite the toll the COVID-19 pandemic took on the US economy at large.
Sam Hazen, the top executive at HCA Healthcare, the largest investor-owned hospital chain in the country, pocketed $83.6 million last year more than four times what he made in 2019 according to an Insider analysis of the company s financial documents. ....

Bobbie Jo Oberholtzer, a Racine native born Barbara Burns, was trying to hitchhike home from a bar to her home in Alma, Colo. She never made it home. She was 29.
After 39 years, Colorado law enforcement spurred on by an obsessed, retired detective who refused to give up and thought he would die before the case was solved say they have found the man who killed Bobbie Jo Oberholtzer in what had been known as the “Rocky Mountain Cold Case.” ....
