May 7, 2021 On Tuesday, May 25, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 59 will hold its annual meeting and voting for the following officers at Post 59, 156 E. Main St., Fredonia. Officers will serve the 2021-22 term. The following have been nominated to serve Squadron 59 Sons of the American Legion: Commander: Rodney Dziduch; Vice Commanders: Doug McPherson and David “Duper” Winchell; Adjutant: Larry Fiorella; Chaplain: David Dengler; Finance Officer: Larry Fiorella; Historian: Tom Muldowney; Sgt. at Arms: Rick Holly; Veteran Advisor: Rick MacDonald. The Sons of the American Legion is an organization made up of male descendants from veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Military Operations of Lebanon, Grenada, Panama and from the Persian Gulf War/War on Terrorism. Members support programs in Veterans Rehabilitation, Children and Youth, Student Scholarships and Community Affairs. Membership now numbers nearly 30,000 within the Detach ....
Ann Gollnitz helps clean up in Westfield. As the spring season comes into bloom, it is also the season for local communities to rally together and clean up the places they call home. Thanks to Partners in Kind, these kinds of cleanups were huge successes in both Fredonia and Westfield. For the Fredonia cleanup, Larry Fiorella and a group of 30 volunteers went all throughout the streets and parking lots of Fredonia, picking up bags and bags of trash. “People were assigned an area they wanted to go to,” Fiorella said. “We registered at Barker Common, passed out gloves, trash bags, and masks if they needed it. Tim Hortons donated donuts and coffee, and Home Depot donated gloves, masks, bags and hand sanitizer.” ....

OBSERVER file photo Talks of the Fredonia Farm Festival possibly moving to the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds this year came up briefly at the Board of Trustees meeting last month. “The board (FestivalsFredonia) was in discussion and it looks like they’re going to be moving this year’s Farm Festival to the fairgrounds,” Trustee Roger Britz stated. “One of the reasons they discussed is our food truck law. It seems to be putting a big hamper on getting food vendors in our village to participate in our festivals. I’d like to discuss this in more detail with the board and possibly working out some sort of fee structure so that we could accommodate the Farm Festival and have our festival kept in our village.” ....
